The eleventh conference "Sergeev's readings" -"Modeling for Solving Geoenvironmental Problems"
Moscow, March 23-24
The eleventh All-Russia Scientific Conference ”Sergeevskie chteniya” (the annual session of the Scientific Council RAS on Environmental Geoscience, Engineering Geology and Hydrogeology) in commemoration of the outstanding Soviet and Russian scholar, Past President IAEG academician Evgenii M. Sergeev was held in Moscow, March 23-24, 2009.
The session included the jubilee meeting devoted to the 95th birthday of academician Prof. E.M.Sergeev and the scientific session "Modeling for Solving Geoenvironmental Problems". The topics discussed at the conference were as follows:
-Application of GIS techniques and digital mapping methods for solving geoenvironmental problems
-Application of 3D models in engineering geology, hydrogeology, and geocryology
-Modeling of hazardous geological processes
-Modeling of structure and status of geoenvironment
-Modeling of geofiltration andf geomigration processes in environmental geoscience
The invited report on 3D geological modeling was delivered at the conference by Prof. M. Culshaw (British Geological Survey, the Great Britain).
The conference was attended by more than 190 participants from CIS and East European countries. The conference proceedings (Sergeevskie chteniya. Volume 11, V.I. Osipov, Editor-in-chief, Moscow, GEOS Publishers, 2009, 448 pp.) were published with the financial support of RFBR (project no. 09-05-06012).
The CD-version of selected publications by E.M.Sergeev on soil and rock engineering was presented at the conference. The Scientific Council RAS plans to proceed in future with the edition of CD-version of E.M.Sergeev's works on other scientific topics.
