INFLUENCE OF MINING ACTIVITY ON THE CHEMICAL COMPOSITION OF WATER ECOSYSTEMS

The chemical composition of water in the Rudnaya River and the adjacent sea area (Primorski krai, Russia) was investigated. Rudnaya River drains the eastern slope of Sikhote-Alin ridge, where the mining and ore dressing industrial activity has reduced significantly in the last 25-30 years. At the same time, the river pollution with metals remains high, and it has even increased in the middle and upper reaches of river. The anthropogenic impact on the adjacent sea area has been assessed by the trace metals accumulation in the brown macroalgae C. costata, F. evanescens and C. crassipes, which reflects the metal ingress through the atmosphere and river runoff. The reduction of atmospheric emissions due to closure of the Pb smelter plant is accompanied by the decreasing concentrations of Pb and Cu in the macroalgae found to the north of B. Rudnaya, where the influence of river runoff is minimal. The Pb concentration in the macroalgae is found to have decreased during the last 25-30 years in the coastal water to the south of the Rudnaya River mouth, where major part of river runoff is dissipated. The Cu and Zn concentrations are still high in the macroalgae, and it has even risen in F. evanescens.

ASSESSMENT OF CEMETERY IMPACT ON CONTAMINATION OF GROUNDWATER AND OTHER ENVIRONMENT COMPONENTS

The necessity of geoenvironmental research in the territory adjacent to the cemetery has arisen in connection with its planned building up. Assessment of geoenvironmental conditions was based on the comprehensive studies of vadose zone, water-bearing deposits, ground- and surface water. The results of ecogeochemical research were used for developing the conceptual model of ground- and surface water contamination.

The ecological and geochemical mapping of the areas of snow cover's pollution in Kyzyl is made by using GIS technology (ArcGIS 9.3).The mathematical model of the process of spreading of smoke emissions of heat power plant (HPP) is designed. The comparative analysis of theoretical and experimental diagrams of the contents of pollutants in snow cover allows to reveal anomalies and anthropogenic reasons of their accumulation.On most of the investigated territory the ecological situation at winter period is characterized by average degree of the contamination by pollution smoke emissions (Zc = 64—128).The local centers with high levels of contamination (Zc = 128-256) are located in the neighborhoods of the private sector with stove heating, in the district of petrol stations and industrial zone of the town.

The paper characterizes engineering geological conditions in the Bereznyaki territory (Perm krai, Russia) and the specific features of the developing technonatural disastrous processes. The procedure of compiling the legend and the scheme of zoning urbanized area by the geohazard degree is presented based on the updated methods of engineering geological mapping. The risk-forming factors and geological processes are described within the distinguished zones for planning, monitoring, survey and costruction operations.

The article emphasizes the changes in the Yenisei Siberian middle boreal (taiga) landscapes caused by climate warming. Transformation of landscapes and natural systems' responses to outer influences are analyzed on the basis of repetitive studies. The cryogenic landscapes are ranked by their susceptibility to climate warming. The increasing problems of local inhabitants in taiga management are shown. Finally, the author offers possible options of diversifying the nature management in the boreal zone under the conditions of changing environment.

The issues in assessing deformation, strength and creep of clay deposits are discussed by the example of Kursk magnetic anomaly (KMA) and the region of Olympic construction in the vicinity of Sochi. The possibilities in applying the remote control over geomechanical processes upon mining and construction works, namely, aerial and space survey as well as GPS technologies are considered.

EVALUATING CONTRIBUTIONS OF MULTIPLE SOURCES OF POLYCYCLIC AROMATIC HYDROCARBONS TO ТERRITORY POLLUTION (SHELEKHOV, IRKUTSK REGION)

The approach is proposed to identifying the sources of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and to evaluating the contribution of sources to the total fallout at the underlying surface. The results obtained from different tracers are discussed and the conclusion is made on tracer applicability.
