Specifics in response of weak soils to strong earthquakes are considered. Reduction or increase in peak level of fluctuation at the surface depends on simultaneous influence of nonlinear and resonant processes in weak soils. Examples of weak soils behavior at intense earthquakes are given. The possibility to predict their response to strong influence by means of calculations under computer programs is pointed out.

Hydrogeochemical features of water interaction with soluble minerals are considered by the example of Solikamskaya depression with spread salt strata in natural (area of Verchnekamskaya hydropower plant) and technogenically transformed (area of Berezniki town) environments. It is shown that the preservation of rock and potassium salt is possible only upon maintaining hydrogeochemical groundwater regime that provides stability of gypsum facially replaced by salt. Gypsum protects the latter from contact with highly aggressive groundwater and, thus, from intense dissolution.

ASSESSMENT OF ATMOSPHERE POLLUTION IN URBANIZED AREAS OF TOMSK REGION BY THE RESULTS OF SNOW COVER STUDY

The paper presents the research results on air pollution with dust in Tomsk region using the snow survey. Data are presented on the average content of 29 chemical elements in the insoluble phase of snow cover in different areas of the Tomsk region and Tomsk city. Each studied area in the Tomsk region is characterized by the particular set of chemical elements in the snow insoluble phase. The results show that dust containing these elements comes from local sources as well as from industrial enterprises in Tomsk region and neighbor areas.

The paper presents the information about the distribution of PCBs and OCPs in the soil - atmospheric air system in summer 2008 in the territory of some regional industrial centers and adjacent agricultural areas of Eastern Siberia, the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) and the Far East of Russia. The nonuniform distribution of PCBs and OCPs in soil and atmospheric air of investigated areas was revealed. The distribution is controlled by atmospheric transport and local sources associated with the use of either PCB technical mixture (Sovol or TCD) or pesticides both in present and in the past, as well as with the volatilization of toxicants from the surface of previously contaminated soils.

ESTIMATION OF ECOLOGICAL CONSEQUENCES OF PLACER GOLD EXTRACTION ON THE AMUR RIVER

Based on remote sensing data, the thematic mapping of watercourses transformed by gold mining within the Amur River basin was compiled and their numerical rating was calculated. Using GIS technologies, the attempt was made to fully estimate the scale and distribution of the impact from gold mining enterprises and to identify possible management activities on its minimization. For the first time, based on the obtained data the basin wide assessment of the consequences of stream gold mining in the Far Eastern region was carried out. Basic data on gold production in terms of river basins was presented.

ANALYSIS OF THE SOIL STRUCTURE BY THE SCANNING ELECTRON MICROSCOPE-X-RAY COMPUTED MICROTOMOGRAPH SYSTEM (SEM-µСТ)

The paper deals with a new method for analyzing the structure of dispersed soils by the scanning electron microscopy and X-ray computed microtomography system and technique of its implementation based on possibility to combine the results of macro- and microstructure investigations in a total data massive with "STIMAN" software. Testing this method on a large collection of soils of different age, genesis, and lithification degree allowed us, in addition to micropores, to reveal a category of macropores and to evaluate their contribution to the total porosity, which increased significantly the accuracy of the studies in pore space structure of clay soils.

The article discusses the problem of developing a permanent mathematical engineering-geological model. Its three-level structure is described, and the cartographic model of Khanty-Mansiysk is given. Four categories of sites are distinguished in the city: stable, moderately stable, low stable and unstable.
