We analyzed safety of radioactive waste (RW) and spent nuclear fuel (SNF) disposal in the underground repository at the site "Eniseiskii" within Nizhnekanskii mountain range. The analysis was carried out on the basis of radioactive pollution simulation in the underground medium after a hypothetic escape of ra-dionuclides from the repository. It is shown that propagation of the pollution with the long-lived isotopes of U, Np, Pu, Am for 1000 years is of the order of 100 m or less, if the influence of colloidal transport of the radionuclides is insignificant. Hence, the hazard of the biosphere pollution with the above-listed radionuclides upon the disposal of RW and SNF in the underground repository at the "Eniseiskiy" site at a depth of about 500 m is low, in case the colloidal transport of radionuclides by groundwater is insignificant.

THE SOIL AND VEGETATION DYNAMICS IN THE PINE-SPRUCE FOREST ECOSYSTEMS (THE SOUTH-WEST OF MOSCOW AREA)

Forest plantings of different age are studied in the southwest of Moscow area within the moraine plain. The stages of planting development and their specific features are distinguished. The influence of forest cutting and the subsequent spruce planting on the soil-vegetation cover is analyzed. The rate of soil and vegetation rehabilitation after cutting is determined.

TRANSFORMATION OF PETROLEUM PRODUCTS IN THE GEOLOGICAL ENVIRONMENT UPON CHANGES IN THEIR BITUMEN STATUS (ANTHROPOGENIC ASPECT)

The main problems in geoecological estimation of petroleum products transformation are analyzed taking in account their bitumen status. The four-zone model of oil products distribution is offered considering their transformation in geoenvironment. The non-equilibrium system of "water — rock — oil products (pollutants)" interaction is substantiated, with two genetic branches (abiogenic and biogenic) being distinguished, which form the final effect of pollution. The mechanisms of developing vertical and horizontal geochemical zoning of geological environment are presented. The polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons are considered as the priority components of pollution.

The map of mudflow basins is built by the results of field studies conducted by the authors in the Mzymta River basin during the period of 2004-2010. The mudflow characteristics are determined, and the problems in protecting territory and Olympic objects against mudflows are considered.

ASSESSMENT AND RANKING OF THE OLYMPIC CONSTRUCTION SITES IN SOCHI BY LANDSLIDE HAZARD DEGREE

The paper deals with the assessment of engineering geological conditions in the mountainous sites of Olympic construction in Sochi, Adler region including the combined highway and railway route and the construction site of mountain sport structures. The geological history of the area is considered as well as the conditions of formation and stability of modern slopes. The slopes are ranked by the degree of landslide hazard for the purpose of planning and installation of monitoring systems and engineering protection systems at the most hazardous sites.

THE ROLE OF PETROLEUM POLLUTION TRANSFORMATION IN CHANGING PROPERTIES OF SEASONAL THAWING AND FREEZING GROUNDS

The results of complex experimental studies in thermal, acoustic and electric properties of seasonally thawing and freezing petroleum-contaminated soils of different grain-size as well as the results of the investigation of petroleum structure and properties are considered. The changes in the investigated properties are discussed depending on the duration of petroleum transformation, degree and conditions of pollution, as well as temperature of grounds. The time changes of considered parameters are compared to the petroleum structure; their close interconnection is shown, which was decisive for revealing the role of petroleum transformation in the formation of investigated properties. Proceeding from the results obtained, the predictive calculations were performed for changing the depth of seasonal thawing and freezing for the grounds of different grain size in the European North, Western Siberia and Alaska; taking into account the influence of varying albedo of the surface and thermal properties.

INFLUENCE OF MICROSTRUCTURE OF CLAY SOILS OF DIFFERENT ORIGIN ON THEIR DEFORMATION UNDER COMPRESSION AND PLATE LOADING TESTS

The paper deals with the influence of microstructure on the deformation properties of clays. The studies were conducted on clays of different age and genesis composing the upper part of the geological section in Moscow. Deformation characteristics were determined using compression and plate loading tests. Samples collected before and after tests allowed us to study the initial microstructure of clay, to trace changes in it, and to identify the main factors controlling the microstructure transformation.

APPROACHES TO REGIONAL GEOECOLOGICAL MAPPING

Theoretical and methodological fundamentals of regional geoenvironmental mapping are considered. A spatial hierarchy of mapped objects is developed as well as the algorithm of building geoecological maps of the region. Geoecological regions and urbosystems are taken as objects of geoenvironmental mapping to a medium scale. Unified legends for the evaluation (evaluation of engineering-geological conditions, geoecological assessment area) and the advisory maps are proposed. The suggested approach to geoecological mapping is implemented by the example of the Smolensk region.
